Silent Rider V drive muffler Construction? Blow?

Recommended Posts

In my recent alternator project, I removed my Silent Rider V drive muffler to gain access and now I am concerned this muffler may be bad. Does anyone know how the fiberglass is attached inside this muffler? On one side I can see fiberglass kinda blown out, the rest of the muffler appears hollow. Does this muffler just equalize the exhaust pulses, or is it supposed to filled with fiberglass batts? I know this boat ran hot before I purchased it requiring an engine replacement, so this could be resulting damage to this 2000 Wakesetter.

Does this appear to need replacement or should i stuff some insulation in it?? Any repair ideas? It doesn't leak. Appears some repairs were done to the end hose connectors. These things are expensive! Repair, replace, reinstall and not worry about it??

Appreciate any advice. bc905333.jpg

I had mine off during the winter and it looked nothing like yours. I would probally have it repaired. You might also check the forum and see if anyone has one used. I have seen a lot of talk about exhaust mods that might leave someone having something for you. Good luck

Ok, I found the manufacture of the Silent Rider muffler. Spoke to the tech dept. Turns out the V drive muffler doesn't have any insulation in it at all. The muffler got hot and the resin burned off the fiberglass when then previous owner ran it dry (cracked block!). Thus, my muffler is toast. That fiberglass seen in the photos is actually the glass used to construct the muffler body, less the resin that holds the glass togeather. I guess better to find it now than break down on the water...Anyone have an extra silent rider muffler they want to part with?
