Straighten Steering Wheel

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help me. I took out our 2006 23 lsv the other day and I noticed that the steering wheel is off 90degrees or so when I am going straight. I know there is a small adjustable wedge in the rudder but I believe this is used for small corrections, not a whole 1/4 turn. Can I adjust the wheel in the cable or somewhere else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get a set of hex wrenches and remove the steerring wheel. Rotate it 90 degrees and reinstall. That will get you pretty close, and if you're lucky, real close.

Right on. Also, you'll notice the "center" or "straight" wheel position will likely change between cruising speed and WOT.

Bring the boat up to speed going straight and then shut it down without turning the wheel at all. Once stopped, get under the dash and remove the rack from the rack and pinion steering mechanism. Once it's removed (4 small bolt), straighten the wheel and then re-install the rack.

Doing it this way will get you a lot closer to straight than adjusting it using the 6 machine screws that hold the wheel on.
