Wow! Gorgious... What lake and state is this? I'm guessing it's too far for me to visit from the Northwest. :(

Going there with the fam Sunday. Reports says it still has about 80% capacity.

capacity is kinda a misnomer there. I bet it still has 95% of full pool surface area. only thing that sucks there right now are all the people. Can't wait till after labor day!

Only a 13 hr drive from Seattle. Closer than I thought it would be... I could stop for a day or two on Shasta and a day or two on Lake Billy Chinook in Oregon. If only life was more play and less work...

Bullards Bar, CA.

Have you houseboated on this lake? I've always wanted to tow our Malibu to Lake Powell and rent a house boat, but it's just too far. Bullards Bar is far more reasonable and we have family in the Bay area that could meet up with us. Seems like the lake would have a lot of place to escape the masses if you rent a house boat and tow a malibu around??? Any thoughts?

We've camped, not houseboated. There are plenty of coves to stick a houseboat in. It's not a huge lake though... you can get from one end to the other in 30 minutes or so (at 30mph). If it's high season, like now, even midweek there are a lot of boats on the water. The best boarding / skiing is in the "river arm" in the back. When it's busy it can feel like a freeway back there. The main bodies of the lake can get blown out after 10 a.m. or so. Weekends are a zoo for the next couple.

If you are houseboating to have a base of operations on the water for a great watersports lake, bullards is awesome. If you want to traverse a huge lake and "see the sights," or stake your claim to a finger of the lake that you won't see another boat in (powell?), not so much (shasta would be way better in that regard).... it's just not very big. It's also remote and unsupported, aside from a small marina store (vs. shasta where you could get from dock to car to walmart in 40minutes or so).

I visit Bullards a couple of times a week. The Lake is beautiful and plenty of room to get away from ppl. The houseboat prices- in my opinion- are a little high but the lake and atmosphere is outstanding. I have houseboated there 6 times and its the only place I will get one, Shasta is cheaper but not as pretty. There is plenty of water for the rest of the season. I highly recommend Bullards.

My interest is about next year. I'm up for my 10 year sabbatical with my firm next year, so I'm looking for good vacations to use it on (already planned a two and a half week trip to the deep south: TN, GA, SC, & FL). I'll be taking the Malibu factory tour in Loudon, TN (and maybe the mastercraft tour since the factory is only 20 minutes away). I took the Merced, CA factory tour before buying my '08 Vride and it was very interesting.

You keep mentioning water level. How far inadvance will I be able to determine the water level for next year (e.g., mid-June or late-May time frame). What post number is your picture from Bullards?

I check this website to see current levels of all California lakes. Click on Daily Reservoir Storage

I use this website to check all California Lake levels. Click on Daily Reservior Storage. It's my profile pic, new laptop and I lost the original pic. The levels are great early (May, June) and then they drop because of water sales to So Cal!!!

This is my Brothers boat. On our annual Mabel Lake Trip. My 4 year old spent most of his days nude and I thought this was a great pic.
