I have an 08 LSV with a monsoon and was/am contemplating changing the oil myself. i feel like i could do it in my truck with no problem but was wondering if anyone has done this, if it is more than you asked for and if there is a manuel/directions you can point me towards for me to follow.

Changing the oil isn't tough to do at all, a bit more time consuming and tighter spaces to work but all very doable. First locate the "garden hose" which is usually attached to a large "paper clip" attached to the front of the engine on the port side on the engine hoist loop. Remove the hose from the clip and snake it through the drain plug adjacent to the vdrive, next to the rear ballast pump. The oil filter will be on the starboard side down underneath more or less the front area. Remove the side panel to the engine to access it. For the oil filter most of use the Napa Gold 1069 and I personally use Chevron DELO 15w40. I let the oil drain over night and have never had the oil spill when taking off the filter but I do use a 2-liter bottle (only use the bottom 1/3) or you can use a gallon zip-a-lock bag and just dispose of it cleanly. Then put the hose/filter back and fill. I'll change the oil only when I come back from the lake and it's still warm but not too hot to deal w/. No manuals I've ever read have this info...

Oil Filter: From the files of my past screw ups:

1) make sure that the rubber gasket from the old filter is with the old filter and not stuck on the engine.

2) Fill the new oil filter about half full of oil and Lightly smear new oil on the rubber gasket of the new oil filter,

3) Hand tighten the new oil filter, don't use the wrench

General

1) wipe down after finished.

2) double check the oil level (level will be low if you forgot to secure the drain hose)

3) run the engine (in the water or with the fake lake) a few minutes

4) stop engine, look for leaks

5) recheck the oil level

6) don't overfill

Good point. I hadn’t thought about that before. Thanks.

I'm kinda anal and I actually clean the oil filter connection and gasket area upon every oil change, never had one come off but it's certainly possible...you proved it...lol

I have seen a couple students do it. In about 10 seconds you will have a HUGE mess.
