Re-using prop nuts

Recommended Posts

Hey Crew,

I bought a weekend saver kit from Bakes, which has a spare nut and key. I took my prop off for the winter and still have the old nut and key, can they be re-used?

I did a search and didn't find anything.

Thanks!

You can probably use the nut a few times, ensure that the key is properly seated and you install a cotter key for security. Check the nut torque the first few times on the water. I have successfully re used nyloc nuts in a variety of applications.

While your at it you should get one of those fancy cones that are used to cover up that unsightly prop nut. What were they only like $50.00

OH YEAH. I can't stand looking at my prop nut! I try to keep it under the water whenever possible

we have seen several steel cotter pins disappear.

we have not seen problems using stainless steel cotter pins.

Mine was missing the cotter pin after first year. Don't know if it was ever there, but used stainless for last 4 years and not lost 1.
