It's that time of year again, who's filed already and did the refund come quickly?

This is my first year owning the boat and filing tax for it, I am not in for some rude awakening or anything right?

Anybody buying anything cool with their tax refund? I am boring and just paying down my line of credit that boat was purchased on.

Cant be worse than California, will cost me about $700 this year for luxury tax on the boat, Plus the 8.25% sales tax I had to pay on the purchase price, plus $4.50/gallon gas..... gotta love California! Thank goodness the weather is nice, thats about the only thing keeping people here anymore!

Actually it can be worse, some counties in Virginia have a 5% assesment on personal property (varies by county, but there are several with 5% rates). So 5% on a new VLX would be at least $3,000 in property tax plus 5% sales tax. The sales tax may be lower, but the property tax more than makes up for it.

I have never understood how CA can have the highest taxes and be the most broke state in the US.

We have already filed and already got our refund. Money is going back into the house to finish up the hand-scraped hardwood floors in the bedrooms

We just sent our in to a new accounting firm, Dewey Cheatham & Howe. I think the lady working on ours is Marge Inoferror. Something just doesn't seem right though....

Yep, so true. It's a property tax that we pay on our boat....just another tax to fund some stooooopid gov't program.

Here's an example of how CA nickel and dimes it's citizens. When you buy a cell phone here you have to pay sales tax on the MSRP/non-contract price. For your average smartphone that's $600 or $50 in sales tax. The reason? Back in the 90's cell phones were considered luxury items and taxed differently. Has this law changed now that every teenager has a phone?

The irony? There is a tax payer subsidized program that buys cell phones for people who can't afford them.

Oh my friend, California is a great place to be homeless, get on welfare, and live off the system. We have more socialist programs here than anywhere else in the country! We have the 4th largest economy in the world and they cant figure out how to balance the checkbook. You get taxed more every year, and still nothing changes.

I should live and purchased my boat in Oregon, it would have saved me $5k in sales tax! Wow, that would be nice!

I work in public service and we are getting pounded by the public right now, and we are only 2.5% of the general budget of the state!

Some states in the US have property tax on your boat and some don't. For example, Kansas City is right on the border of Kansas and Missouri. If you register your boat in Missouri your registration is about $25. If you register your boat in Kansas, you pay $800 property tax per year plus $30 registration fee. Both states have a one time sales tax.

What's a tax refund?? I thought I did taxes evey year so the Gov. could punish me for going to college and getting a good job by telling me I need to pay more in taxes to help support the stupid poor people who sit on the couch all day and do nothing to contribute to society.

I am very bitter about this right now. Not only do I have to pay more taxes, but one of these ^ said mouth breathers just destroyed one of my rental properties.
