The home run is that you got your boat back. Very easily, your boat could have been rounded up by the dealer's secured creditors and you would be talking to a Bankruptcy Lawyer about how to get your boat back. I have seen this happen with car dealerships that go under. If the dealer went out of business for money reasons, you are an unsecured creditor with an unliquidated claim, chances of getting any money out of this would be slim to none.

and slim would be a stretch....... be thankful you are not battling to get your boat back.

77-Marine Dayton Ohio. Its a Nautique dealership.....well, was!

And I filed a complaint with the BBB, not that it will help any!

Wow, they haven't had nautique for more than a year or two (I am in the Cincy area). Land N Sea (which is across the highway from No Wake - Malibu Dealer in Cincy) had nautique before 77 did, and they look out of business as well...not good! At least No Wake seems to be hanging in there.

There are some good fiberglass shops along the Ohio River just outside Cincy - if you get stuck, they might be a source. Try No Wake and see if they have recommendations for you, or Allcraft Marine if you don't get anywhere with 77. Or call your 77 contact and find out who their main worker-bee's are and see if you can hire them to help finish the job for you.

Well, good news! The service manager called today and said I could bring the boat up. The buisness is still closed until further notice but he wanted to help me out. He was going to be at the shop a little this afternoon. Without hesitation, I quickly picked up the boat and went before he could change his mind. When I got there it was aghost town, but he was there ready to work on it.

I helped him with it. Luckily we were able to get the rudder functioning again. I will need to post up some pics soon. Instead of cutting, we tore out the exhaust and grabed a mighty big hose clamp and screwed it into the rear stringer. Replaced the exhaust pipe and attached the hose clamp to the rubber exhaust that was hitting the rudder control and tightened until it pushed over enough out of the way...it worked. That was our first option rather than grabbing the sawzall and cutting. It should be a pretty good fix...

Really a stand up guy, we shot the hay for awhile after and he is thinking about starting up his own service buisness. Unfortunately, he is not a Malibu guy, but more of an IO guy. I won't hold that against him since he helped out.

Turned out to be an easy fix but could have been nasty if the first "this is to easy to work" option to work.

Whew! That's gotta feel good.

Nice result, you should consider yourself very lucky to have met this guy, it could have ended much differently. I would certainly think he is laying very positive groundwork to start his own business, if he keeps treating potential customers in that fashion, he should be very successful. Perhaps, it would be good to encourage him to become a tourney boat dealer, always good to have a good, well respected one in the area.
