Help Removing Center Rear Floor Section - 2002 XTI 23

Hey All:

70 degrees this past week - not bad for February in Ohio! :-) Spring fever is on! Since I can't put the Bu in the water yet, I picked up some new gortex packing to redo the stuffing box in the spring on my 2002 XTI 23. It would make the job much easier if I could get the center section of the rear floor to pop up. You can clearly see it is removable, but I don't see any fasteners anywhere. I dug a little in the shag of the carpet but don't see anything. Wondering if the rear seat box/frame needs to be removed and its just held in by that pressure/friction?

If you've removed the center rear floor on your XTI and have some wisdom to impart, please let me know. If not I'll tear into it and document for future use on the forum.

Thanks all!

Mike,

I have a 03 23 XTi, so I am guessing they are pretty similar in their interior layout. I removed my floor piece when I installed my new steering cable. I had to look long and hard for the screws. First, take out your rear facing seat cushion. Disconnect your wires for speakers/cig plug. I think there are two or three brackets with 2 screws each holding the curved seat base to the floor. Take those out. There are also two bolts that hold this curved piece to the motor box frame. Mine are phillips heads with 9/16" nuts. Then I found 3 phillips screws buried in the carpet holding the curved base to the "bulkhead" (for lack of a better term) between the transmission area and the storage area on the starboard side. They are in a vertical line, and evenly spaced. Once you get these out, you should be able to take the big curved seat base out. Then there are two screws holding the floor piece in place. They are located on the aft end of the piece in the corners. Take those out and you should be able to pull the floor piece up.

If you want me to, I can get you some pictures to show you right where I am talking about.

Great info, thanks for sharing! I think the layouts are the same so this should do the trick!

Thanks,
