What do I need, and how much weight?

I have an 06 23 LSV with factory ballast system. I would like to get some additional sacs/pump for husbands birthday. Not sure how much more weight I need, where do I need it, what kind of sacs, piggyback system, best place to buy., etc........? We have just started surfing last year, and many times did not have enough weight in the boat for a good surf wake. A lot of times there are only three of us in the boat. Where do I start? Can I add additonal sacs/system later? Thanks for any suggestions!

Hey Mal Gal: I also have the 2006 23 lsv and have added to our ballast. We purchased the piggyback system from Wake Makers. We chose to add the 1100 pound fat sacs to both sides as my son and I surf different sides. The install package and instructions couldn't be any easier. This is the most economical solution as you will be using the factory pumps to fill and empty bags. The drawback is because the factory piranna pumps are airator pumps it takes a little while to fill the system. The water will be pumped to the top of the piggy back fat sac and through gravity flow through to the factory tanks, once the hard tank is full it fills the fat sac. It will take approx 11 to 14 minutes to fill the system on one side. I started with this system because it is the most economical. I have not had a chance to try it out yet, however, if the fill rates drive me crazy I plan on adding a reversable ballast pump plumbed into the hull drain by the v drive. The 1100 bag fits well into the rear lockers. Good Luck and happy surfing.

I recommend either the fly high 750 or 1100 sac for the rear locker and also the fly high 400 tube sac for under the seats just infront of the rear lockers. You need more than just weight in the rear lockers or the wave will suck, it will be tall and short. You'll even probably want another 400 vdrive sac for ontop of the seats all the way forward on the seats as you can get them.

Here are the sacs I'm talking about.

06vlx thanks for the information. Do you recommend the piggyback system or is there another way to fill/drain?

There are pros and cons with any way you do it. I don't prefer the piggyback method but it is the cheapest. You could always just buy a pump or two that you throw overboard and fill the bags until you figure it out. You'll always want a manual pump onboard anyways as a backup. I prefer the bakes method that utilizes a Y selector valve and an additiional pump for drain. The valve directs the water flow from the stock pump and is easy to install. The drain pump is also easy to install and you can just use a Y fitting to tie into the drain pump on the opposite side of the boat. It's more expensive but much faster as well.

Give Paul at Bakes Marine a call and discuss your goals and he can point you in the right direction.

Do you have Paul's email, I'd like to price it out compared to wakemakers.

For surfing, how much weight are you guys using in addition the the factory tanks filled (minus the tank opposite the surf side to get that gangsta lean)? So I am tracking 3 of 4 tanks filled is approx 1200lbs.. then most guys add approx another 1000lbs + distributed evenly on the surf side from fron to back??

And the wedge 3/4 the way down tot he locked position?

This year I'll be running 900lbs in the back surfside, 500lbs center, 500lbs nose, maybe another 400lbs in the walk through when needed or wanted, then the wedge 3/4 of the way up for surfing. Wakeboarding I'll be running around 1200lbs in the back, 500lbs center, 500lbs, nose, and wedge.

If our wake is high enough but we're looking to lengthen, which is better,

the 400 sac under the seats

or

400lbs in the bow?

We use the 750 in the rear locker and wedge 2-3 from max for a nice push but the spot isn't very long.

I would do the one under the seats. The more evenly you can distribute the weight front to back the better in my experience.

1500-2000 on top of mls plus wedge 2-3 clicks up from bottom.

Weight in the bow will lengthen the pocket.
