Ordered New Boat

We ordered an new LSV 23 for Christmas with the 550 HP supercharged motor. Hoping to have good bottom end for surfing and a bit more top end for cruising the lake. If we go with a prop for higher speed, will we be compromising the bottom end or will the horsepower make up for it? What kind of top end should I expect to get out of this boat?

With 550hp i don't think it will matter...

Agree...I had the 8.1L in my last 23LSV and you didn't need anythingn other than the standard prop....and that was 100HP less, although I think the torque is compariable. I got the high altitude prop on my 23LSV with the 350 and it's great for boarding and skiing, but its horrible for cruising.

I ordered a s/c 247 in december. For the 247 with that motor have heard everything from 50-60mph. I suspect at lower end with stock prop but it's pleny fast regardless. Should be really fun in a 23' boat!

Congratulations on the new boat, it should be a monster with that engine!

Unfortunately, you may be a little disappointed if you have high expectations for the top speed. Wakeboard and waterski boats have incredibly inefficient hull designs (that's what makes for the great wake and handling), so even with the ideal prop for top speed, it takes an incredible amount of additional power (50HP) to achieve a very moderate (1MPH) increase in top speed.

The advantage that the extra torque of that motor gives you is that you can run a prop that would be better suited for top speed, and still have adequate hole shot for surfing and wakeboarding.

We've only tested a few applications with the LSA engine, but we're starting to get a pretty good idea of what works for that engine. Ultimately it will come down to how you personally use the boat, and what your priorities are as far as the boat's performance.

I'd be willing to bet a person won't see 50mph with that motor in a 23lsv or bigger (gps verified).

Agreed. I would think 46 or 48 max would be the top end.

Congratulations! We need to see pics. What prop are you running?

EDIT: Where are you located?

We just ordered the boat a few days before Christmas. Hope to get delivery in April or May. We are located at Little Shuswap Lake in B.C. Canada.

Weve got a floating pub about 30 miles down the lake that makes great lunches. I'm hoping to be able to make a few quick trips down there so we may try a longer legged prop and see what happens.

That is a rough ride down to the narrows on an average day. I've done it in our 23 LSV from scotch creek and nearly lost a kidney. If you had a runabout before you will find the flat bottom on the 23 a rougher ride in chop... better that the previous generation hull but much worse than a runabout with a deep V. If you want to go another 30 miles we are on Mara in the summers.

Maybe I should keep the Cobalt for the runs down the Lake

If you have the resources for both I would.... the cobalt is a cadillac in the chop vs the waksetter that will be a corvette.

WE plan on being up there most of the summer. If you want to see first hand how the supercharged motor pulls or see the real GPS speed, we are on Lot 38, Little Shuswap Road. From the water, we are 38 lots down the lake past the Lodge. New large aluminum dock, right hand side of the lake.

you will see a black and red waksetter floating 50 yards away while I try and figure out your keyless ignition code

Cool..not sure I want to navigate between the two lakes however we are on the water just east of the inlet into the Marina at Scotch Creek. There are 3 houses on the property all staggered back from the water. pm me and I will give you my cell. Nice to see that sweet new ride! Who did you order it from?

We ordered it from Performance Watersports in Surrey. Real nice people to deal with.

I purchased our boat from them. They are great to deal with and their after sales service is very good.
