Blown fuel line

Recommended Posts

Malibu Crew,

A friends 2003 response with the monsoon motor, has blown 2 fuel lines over the last two summers, both times its happened its been the high pressure line thats blown resulting in fuel ending up all through the engine area and in the bilge which isnt good! Both times it happened i wasnt on the boat so details are a little sketchy.

Has any one got any ideas on the likely causes or what should be checked? A little worried to go out in it in case it happens again and catches fire.

Any help is much appreciated,

Thanks Brad

fuel pressure regulator needs to get some attention.

put a fuel pressure gage on the fuel rail.

i'll bet it's too high.

consider leaving this job to a professional? your buddy has been lucky twice. leave the job to someone with better insurance than you have?

There was a fuel line recall for some 2003 and early 2004 models. Have your buddy check out this link for a copy of the bulletin for Malibu engines. Checking the fuel pressure regulator is also a good idea. The pressure on that engine should in the 40-45 PSI range.

thanks engine nut! Hopefully this recall explains it all!

Will also get the fuel pressure checked by some one professionally.

Something isn't right for sure, not only could you have a bad regulator. I've seen the return fuel line get pinched if the fuel tank moves or expands causing the fuel pressure to increase.

If you have high fuel pressure the engine will run really bad / rich though so you will have a obvious issue with fuel pressure.

If the fuel lines are over crimped (that service bulletin that engine nut posted) get those lines replaced. Its possible you could have the wrong or bad crimped fuel lines on your motor
