Fuel and Winter

Was wondering about best fuel to use. Someone told me I should be running super unleaded in the boat. However all summer we ran regular and she ran like a champ... Also I live in southern Ca. so it doesn't get nasty cold...What do you guys do for winter? ie. top of fuel, stabalizer, and so on?!

Thanks.

You don't say what engine you have, which will make a difference if it's any of the performance engines.

I have the Monsoon & run regular gas.... with the ethanol as there is nothing else available here. Never had a problem. At some point late in the fall I start putting Stabil in the gas..... in everything I own. I've been using the regular red Stabil for years. But now there is a blue marine version available. Also a couple of new products (at West Marine) with fogging oil in them too.

Sea foam through the gas tank claims to stabilize fuel and lubricate cylinder walls as well.

Start running the blue stabil in it. run the tank as low as possible. The ethanol draws moisture from the air so i tape up the vents after she is winterized. Tape up the exhaust just in case any critters decide the want a place to live.

I add stabil 10 minutes before I shut down and pull the boat for the last time each season. It usually happens with less than 10 gallons of fuel in the boat. Spring time, I fill er up and go. Never had a problem in 47 years.

I changed from stabil to blue stabil two or three years ago. I used the red for years a lot of years before. I have never had a problem. I put it in the last day on the lake. I have never used Sea Foam for winter but have used it on other boats with good results.
