1990 Malibu Euro-F3 Skier Driveshaft Packing

Recommended Posts

Anyone know what size to get? My packing leaks BAD and if I tighten it anymore the shaft gets too hot when spinning. Dealt with it all summer but trying to fix up some small things over the winter.

I was going to get the gore-tex nearly dripless, skidim says some older 'bus use 3/16" with the 1" shaft, most use 1/4". If anyone has dealt with this before it would be a big help so I don't order the wrong stuff. Thanks...

The right way to size the packing is to measure the ID of the brass housing/nut - call it X. Then measure your drive shaft diameter - call it Y. In your case Y is 1".

Your packing size = (X-Y)/2

Easy with the Algebra there Martin. I don't need to be thinking that much on a Friday night.
