Should I fog or not?

Hello all. First time winterizing myself, and I can't find any specific info on whether to use fogging oil or not on my engine. I've got a '06 VLX with the 340 Monsoon. I don't see a flame arrestor, and my air filter is a K&N, but not pink like everyone talks about on here. There seems to be some debate on whether certain engines should be fogged or not, and I can't decide which applies to me. Any help would be appreciated.

Your K&N filter is the flame arrestor. Pull that off and spray fogging oil into the air intake until the engine starts to choke. Then shut the boat off. It's the engine with EXT cats that shouldn't be fogged through the air intake, they should done through each cylinder.

Where do you live? Is the boat stored indoors?

The best way to fog is through each cylinder I think but then again I did mine through the Throttle body this year.

just use this and you'll be fine must easier

EZ-To-Store, EZ-To-Start, Additive/Stabilizer

Protects fuel and engine components during storage.

* Stabilizes and fogs in one easy step

* One ounce of gas additive treats five gallons

you will have to run the motor for 15 min or so that the down side

to make sure the product gets into the motor

the debate is spraying the fogging oil directly into the cylinders ( adding too much) and engines with cats you shouldn't fog ( damage cats)

if you want to use just fogging oil

bring the engine up to temp , remove the air filter ( doesn't matter what kind) and spray the fogging oil 10 to 15 sec while the engine is running

the engine should kick down or sputter slightly

and if you k&n is not red you need to clean and re oil it

I kinda thought the filter was also the flame arrestor. Do you mean the ETX (Extreme Tuned Exhaust)? That's what my motor has, and therefore I assume it has cats, so no spray in the filter directly.

That sounds great. I assume you can get that at most automotive stores?

I don't think ETX means you have cats, I could be wrong but I have the same year as you and I didn't think cats came out until 07'

Can someone chime in on this?

Yeah I meant ETX. You shouldn't have cats they didn't start putting them on the monsoon until 07'. They look like this.

Did these manifolds cause any hp loss?

Thanks for the replies and the help guys. My Bu is my first boat, just got it this summer. I've learned a lot so far, got a lot more to learn, and am loving every minute of it. After further review, I do not believe there are cats on this engine. I can't find any literature that definitively says there are, and I don't see anything in the engine compartment that looks like a cat. Thanks again!

:plus1: Yes, you want to fog it.
