can Stabil go bad?

I have a 2 season old bottle of Stabil in the garage. Just curious if the stuff that is supposed to keep gasoline from going bad can go bad itself. I am going to put a fresh bottle in the boat. I was just curious if the stuff can go bad. Seems kinda paradoxical.

just add Startron to it and you'll be all set (j/k).

I have heard that it does have a shelf life (but can't confirm). The Marine Stabil Product states that it should be used w/in 2 yrs of "opening bottle".

I don't know if it will go bad, but it will change color.

I had an opened bottle about half full on the shelf next to a sealed bottle and the opened bottle turned a darker red. This was after about a year or so. Now I try to buy the smaller bottles and use them quickly after breaking the seal.

ya, this stuff is a darker red already. it was left by the PO of my home. could be more than 2 seasons old for all i know.

I imagine it does have a shelf life, get the blue Marine Sta-bil for the boat next time you re-stock, much better formula than the red for boats because of all the ethanol inhibitors in it now.

...and I think the (blue) marine stuff actually works out to be less expensive then the old red stuff. My local Sams club sells it by the case...which I split w/ my boat owning friends. Just to clarify my earlier post...it is the blue/marine Stabil that reads on the box "to use within 24 months of opening"

 For storage you use 1oz / 5 gallons instead of 2oz / 5 gals with the red.

I put ½ oz in every 5 gal can I fill (even during the summer) just to be safe, in case I don't rotate the gas cans correctly and one ends up sitting for a couple / few weeks.

It states to use it within a 2 year period.

Startron is the way to go... I use it everything I own boat, sleds, ect. I work at a boat shop part time and we winterize 150+ boats a season with no issues.

Jet A is basically Kerosene. If you have access to the tarmac at your local airport, you'd be better off getting ahold of some 100 Octane Low Lead to give yourself an added 'boost'. Just don't put that stuff in your boat if you have cats...I think the lead would mess you up.
