Hammer Head Distributor Cap

Recommended Posts

I have a problem for the forums motor specialists. I need to change the flat distributor cap on my 06 hammer head. The problem I am facing is that the forward screw is underneath the ski pylon metal sleeve or bracket. I can reach the torx screw on the rear, but I have no idea on how to remove the front one. I have removed the top air plenum to get more room, but the ski pylon is right in the way or almost on top of the front torx screw holding down the cap.

Help on this one would be appreciated.

Thanks

One last final post before I go the dealer route. Has anyone bumped into this problem of trying to remove the flat style of distributor cap from the Hammer Head motor. My engine has a portion of the cap and front torx screw under the ski pylon. I have no idea on how to get that screw out.

Thanks

I think I know what you're saying, Flanders.

If I get you right, you cannot see or access the screw that is on the backside of the cap because the pylon is right over top of it.

You're gonna need something like this, a small box ratcheting wrench and go in there blind. I'd measure how long you need that torx insert bit to be based on how far down the screw is on the side that you can get at. I'm guess by the pic. from Bakes that the bit will need to be about 3".

Thanks again.

(Once again the BU crew didn't let me down.)
