Winterizing a Mercruiser with a Perko Inline Valve

Recommended Posts

I have a 92 Euro F3 with a mercruiser 350. I drained the block and the manifolds and I am trying to fill them with anti-freeze using a Perko. I hooked a 6ft section of hose to the Perko taped off the inlet under the boat and put the opposite end in the bucket of anti-freeze. It appears that is not drawing the anti-freeze into the block. Am I doing something wrong? I don't want to burn up the impeller. Is there anyway to get the anti-freeze in the block if this method is unsucessfull. Thanks, Pat

I pull off the hose from the thru hull in the bottom of the boat. Put that hose in the bucket and start her up. I'll shut her down with fog spray when the anti-freeze is coming out the exhast. (after ofcourse, draining the block and manifolds).

I did put duct tape over the thru hull. I just pulled the hose off of the freshwater pickup and stuck it in the bucket. Thanks guys. Pat

I had the same exact setup (boat, engine, perko) for a couple of years. Only additional things I did were: 1. There was a little insert on the Perko that you had to put on before you put the hose on. It defeats the ball that blocks leaks/blow by... Mine came fastened on the strap of the perko cap. 2. I did not try to sipon from a bucket, but held the hose up, put a funnel on it and pour'd the anti-freeze in while running.... It pulled in right in...
