Carburetor Maintenance advice needed

Recommended Posts

I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to maintenance.

Does anyone have any advice for maintaining my carbureted engine? I have a '91 Malibu Skier. What should I do...fuel additive, run it wide open for a while...?

I have one problem that may or may not be related...After towing people around for a while, we'll sit on the beach for an hour of rest...after that, I'll start the BU up and pull a skier up...10 seconds later, the engine cuts out like it's not getting any gas. After I fire it up again, everything is good...at least until it sits for an hour, then it happens again. Frustrated.gifStupid.gif

I'm not a carb guy, but I can suggest you go look up Driftwood on WSR. I don't think he's made it here yet, if he has maybe he'll chime in. Anyway he was pretty well the carbarologist on MBO.

I've always had carb engines and have not really had any problems with them. I've never added anything but dry gas. Carbs hate water, especially older ones. I've never uses any other additives.
