2010 VLX prop question

Hello,

I picked up a left over 2010 VLX with the LCR motor. Would have rather had the Monsoon but it was a great deal so I went for it. Put my first hour on the boat last night and it seemed like the RPM's were running high. Cruising about 32 MPH the RPM's would get up there around 4000. It has the Acme 537 prop on it. This is my first V-drive and I am not too up on the props. Just wanted to ensure this was normal.

Thanks,

James

Sounds about right, you could have been going faster. Take a hand held gps and see what your actual speed was, you might be surprised how far off it could be.

All Malibu v-drives have a 1.5:1 gear reduction built into the v-drive unit, so compared to the direct drive you're used to (unless it's a Mastercraft or Nautique), RPMs will be elevated across the board.

Obviously you could switch props to drop them, but given the fact that you bought a VLX, if anything you'll probably end up changing the prop to something that will actually raise the RPM for a given speed.

Congratulations on the new boat!

James,

Congratulations on the new boat!

I have a 2006 21' LSV Sunscape with the LCR motor. And, FWIW, with the Acme 537 prop,

I get 3000 rpm @ 26 mph, 4000 rpm @ 33.5 mph, 4500 rpm @ 38 mph, and 4900 rpm @ 41.5

mph. My boat rides on the diamond hull, so that might account for the small difference,

but I think you're in the ballpark with 4000 rpm @ 32 mph.

That makes me feel better. We are sitting at 1000 ft elevation and was wondering if I had a high altitude prop or something driving the revs up. I grew up behind a stern drive so this is all new to me.

Thanks,

James
