1993 echelon depth meter

Got my 1993 echelong running and all is well with the computron computer (does have a tendancy to freeze from time to time tho :throwpc: ) except for the depth reading. Not sure what the problem here is because it reads 0.0ft all the time. Anyone have any ideas as to the culprit? I've read that the transducers from malibu aren't the greatest either.

From what I have seen that is one of the most common components to fail on the computron, and there are no repairs available. Try a search on this site, you'll probably find that as well. I have a computron too, and the depth meter failed on the prior owner about 4 years ago. My plan is to put a new one in the dash, maybe reorganize the guages. Winter project. But if you do find a solution, please post it, there are lots of people that need the same fix!

Sounds like a good project for the winter. I'll keep you posted on what I find and do the same here. Do you know where the transducer is located? I'd much rather fix the system in place or do something like youre trying to do as compared to putting an unsightly fishfinder up on my beautifully clean dash.

Should look like a small hockey puck with a wire connected to it. Mine is just in front of the bilge drain in front of the engine, off to the port side. Looks like it is epoxied to the floor pretty well. They make a guage that will fit in your dash, can't remember who but there was a pretty recent post on it. I'm considering removing one of the two speedos and putting it in there. If you have the computron, I think one of them works off of that, and the other is independent.

Edit: Here's the one mentioned, HDR610P , comes with puck and everything, $99.99 plus tax/ship.

Everyone,

I have put all new gauges in my 96 Echelon. The on problem you will encounter is that the old gauges insert from the back of the plastic front plate. This is a huge issue. I had to go to a machine shop to have a new plate created as well as a new plate for the computron front. All new gauges come insert now from the front inwards. So you will have to get a new plate and and create holes put in to make it work. Use your old plate as a guide but find out the correct holes you want. I actually moved my holes around so it would work better. For example, I put the perfect pass on the right side of the plate because it would be easier to adjust. I wish I had a picture of it but I don't sorry.

Thanks Brad, that is very good to know! So the problem is that none of the holes will be large enough on the old plate, therefore the guages won't drop in?

Yes those are not standard holes and you need to find out what the standard hole size are now. PM me and I can help you more if you want.

Brad

Thanks, I appreciate that. We'll see how the winter budget shapes up. Got to get ballast & board for surfing, and a new stereo system.
