Different footed Surfers

Tedro

How do you manage different footed surfers?

25 members have voted

  1. 1. When you have different footed surfers you:

    • Fill rear surf side ballast tank then switch ballast as necessary.
    • Fill both rear ballast tanks to save time and control wake with passengers on surf side.

Seems like we always have some regular and goofy footed surfers on the boat and waste a lot of time switching between sides for rear ballast tanks depending on whose surfing. Mine are Fat Sacks and are not plumbed in so it takes a few minutes to empty one and fill the other. I was wondering what everyone else does about this?

Sux to be goofy, bro. I have had to learn to surf the wrong side of the wave. It takes FOREVER for us to switch the fat sack piggy back system over for goofy footers...and it aint on my boat. On the bright side, I can ride either side of the boat, but rarely get to ride goofy and show my board skillz anymore.

Why wouldnt you drain out of one bag and into the other? that would cut your time in half?

That is a great Idea. How would you go about plumbing that? Next spring I am going to get one extra 1100lb sack and plumb it in but the thought never occurred to me to fill from the draining bag as well as the lake.

It would have to operate something like the following right?

Fill MLS in C and R and Bag R from Lake

When time to switch...

Drain MLS on R to Lake

Fill MLS on L from Lake

Fill Bag L from Lake

Drain Bag R into Bag L

What happens when Bag R is Empty but Bag L is not Full?

What happens when Bag L is Full but Bag R is not empty?

My brain hurts too much to figure this out right now....

You would use a three way valve

Found here.

one side would go out the boat and the other would go to the other bag. Easy!

it is an option, but it doesn't cut your time at all.

Whether you drain one bag into the other at 800gph or

drain one bag overboard at 800gph while filling another bag at 800gph...the time factor is the same...maybe longer if you start adding valves.

Except you would be double filling the bag. One from a pump from the lake and one from the other bag. No?

06VLX what is your set up ? I know , its not fair that regular ALWAYS has a better wake  . I am very happy with my goofy wake , I wish I was left foot  I see WATER !! coming over the side !!! I am afraid to weigh my boat that much . Great wake , but to low in water for where we run . We run the Tombigbee Waterway , and huge boats come by and could sink us . My rub rail is in the water always , but no more than that . Where is your gas vent ?

I've got the Bake's custom 23/247 LSV sac, about 1500 lbs plus full mls surf side with wedge down 2 clicks up.

The goofy side takes less weight to get a good wake.

Goofy side takes LESS weight ???????? My goofy side SUCKS if I run stock ballast and wedge on 9 ( or top click ). Please explain ? Does your boat have a different prop wash than mine ?

Try running 1500 lbs on the goofy side distributed up along the surf side of the boat and you'll see what I mean. You could get a wave like that with less weight on the goofy side if you do it right. The prop rotation helps you on the goofy side.

My driver side ( goofy side ) takes ALOT more weight to make it better than the regular side . My prop wash must go to the regular side , because my regular ( left foot ) is always bigger and better than my right foot . I can not run 1500 lbs of extra ballast , no going to sink my boat that much . How would LESS weight make my goofy side ( drivers side ) any better . 2007 , 23 ft LSV all stock ballast and extra 750 lbs in rear hatch , wedge on 9 . Please tell me how to do it right with less weight ? I HATE my goofy side with no extra ballast , can not surf on it stock , but my regular side surfs fine with stock ballast , add weight ands its HUGE compared to my right foot foward side . Not sure what you are talking about ?????????

I also need less weight on goofy side on my 2006 vride to get a better wake. I surf regular but have a couple of friends that surf goofy. My regular setup is mid ballast full, 750 rear surf side full, and 400 under the surf side seat plus a couple of VAB. When surfing goofy I only have the 750 and VAB and we have a bigger cleaner wake.... I have no idea why...

must be the smaller boat ? Mine SUCKS on goofy side unless I have 4 people and a 750 with stock ballast .

What engine (dont want to say motor and open up that can of worms) do you have in your 23?

I am sorry , but GOOFY RULES !!!! :rockon::yahoo::clap::thumbup:

We just run stock ballast on the regular side with power wedge . But the goofy side has a 750 lbs plus stock ballast and wedge on 9  2007 LSV

goochy (heart the name), do you run power wedge at 9 on both sides? I run power wedge all the way down with the best results. I know Stanley is running his up, but at speeds over 12 and with the Corvette engine and a different prop. Have you tried playing with the wedge on both sides to see where you get the best wake? You might like it better down rather than up.

Fortunately we don't have to switch very often because all of our regulars are, well, regular footed. However, when we have switched we get a surfable wake for beginners on the goofy side with factory weight and a little VAB, whereas the wake is nominal on the regular side with that setup.

It may seem scary to weight your boat, but watch the youtube video on water ballast. We have the rub rail just below water now when running with the custom sac and it's totally fine.

As for the poll, unless you have 8+ people on the boat, weight on the wrong side of the boat is always bad. When it's just the regular crew (driver, spotter, rider and 2 80+ pound dogs), moving a dog from one side of the boat to the other cleans up the wake some. You really don't want any weight on the non-surf side, unless you really, really have it counter-balanced. List is actually better than weight (IE, it's better to have 100 pounds on surf side only than it is to have 200 pounds surf side and 100 pounds non-surf side).

Wouldn't goofy have the additional advantage of the weight of the driver (in my case 215lbs) is always on that side? That has to help some.

I've tried regular... I'm not a switch hitter I guess, have to stick goofy.

The bag you're filling would fill quicker but you still have to completely empty the other so no time would be saved.
