Malibu Response Barefooter Edition

Does anyone know what the difference between a malibu response and a malibu response barefooter edition is? would they be the same for slaloming? any reason to stay away from the barefooter model if only rarely barefoot? thanks.

My memory is a little fuzzy, but I think this was the basics

- Hammerhead engine standard

- Scarpa supression plate standard (which means a wedge plate would be installed)

- 2 jump seats

- Extended pylon (I think they threw a flyhigh pylon in, it wasn't a fixed/permanent extended pylon)

- Prop might have been different

I was looking at them back in early 2000, and that is what I can recall. If you pull the Scarpa plate it should ski the same as a standard Response. From what I heard the Scarpa plate made the slalom wake a little harder. We had one on our 2002 Sunsetter LX, the wake was a little harder but the table was flatter and easier to cross.

I don't think there is a reason to avoid them for the skiing aspects. There have been some horror stories about the hammerhead though. Search the site for more details.

I don't think that's right. We have one on our team that only has the monsoon, doesn't have the scarpa plate, and has a standard pylon. It may or may not have had jump seats in it or a different prop. We're pretty sure the only difference is in the decals.

I think you got a redecal-ed boat. I think barefooter also allowed a rear speedo.

The original "Barefoot Pkg" was as listed above - Hammerhead, Rear Speedo, Jump Seats, SSP, and propped for the HH. The 50" pylon back then was optional for any boat, but hardly anyone got it. When the actual "bft pkg" was dropped, you could still order all the parts and create your own, or just tailor it to your needs.

The hull and wake was no different from the standard Response and Response LX without the SSP, and with the SSP the table was simply flatter between wake crests (if you could find any). The table is denser, but some skiers enjoyed that as well.

In the end, the answer is no, nothing to shy away from if you're looking for a slalom boat.
