IAC/ECM

Ok I have a 97 Sunsetter. I had 997 hrs on it when the motor blew. Now before all that happened I had replaced the (IAC) idel control. Not sure I have the right letters. We put a brand create Monsoon 320 from Indmar. The year before I ihad replace I think everything that could bolt to the motor so putting the new motor in it was like ALL new. I didn't have any problem right off I dont think. But the IAC is actting up again. My worry is is it the ECM. I know I bounced around a lot but if anyone has some input or question I could answer to be more cler it would be helpful. Sorry to ramble.

Telling us what's wrong with the boat will help.

Well it is choking it's self out. I have to un bolt it and screw it back in. It will run it's self out when I screw it it and will idle fine as long as I don't shut it off and start it back up again. But even then sometimes it will be anywhere from 1 to 5 cranks before it does it again. Then I have to do the same process again.

Is this a TBI motor???

I had similar problems with my old Supra with a TBI motor. Mostly in cold water/air. The idle would come down too low and it would kill. I replaced the IAC (Idle Air Control) and the MAP sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure) and it was cured. I replaced them at the same time, so I'm not totally sure which was the culprit, but it may be worth looking at your MAP sensor as well. Also- certain IAC motors are known for going bad, so it's even possible that the new one you put in last year is bad, however not real likely I guess.

As I recall, the MAP sensor was a pretty cheap part, so that's why I bought it along with the IAC in the first place... Call Discount Inboard Marine and see if they have any advice for you. They had both parts in stock, and shipped to me right away when I needed them!
