Lake Powell Bullfrog Marina

After several great Lake Mead late Sept trips we have decided to go to Powell for our first time. We are staying in the hotel at Bullfrog Marina. Hoping those with Powell experience in that area would be willing to share some good daytrip spots for wakeboarding glass and scenary. Thanks a lot.

You really can't go wrong anywhere on Lake Powell, it's an amazing place.

We go out of Wahweap every time we go and have for a decade, so i'm kinda rusty on my points north. Out of Bullfrog there is Halls Bay to the south, or you can go up or down the channel.

As far a s a daytrip, the classic is to bomb down to Rainbow Bridge then stop at Dangling Rope Marina for some ice cream after.

As far as glass goes, it seems like anywhree in the morning, except for the main channel is usually pretty dang sweet.

We will be down there for a week in a week. Ah Yeah.

You should definitely go up lake to Forgotten Canyon and see the Defiance House Ruins. You can anchor your boat at the bottom of the cliff and swim over and walk up the trail to visit the ruins. Pretty cool!

You can also go south to the Escalante River arm and see the LaGorce Arch which is in the Davis Gulch canyon. Really nice in there and is one of the most photographed places on the lake. Take a couple of extra 5gal cans of gas as a safety measure though. It's a long trip and there's no gas until you get back to Halls Crossing or Bullfrog marinas.

Those are the two biggest sightseeing places on the north end of the lake. But get a Stan Jones map of the lake before you go out on the water. The map has all of the things you will see in all of the canyons on the lake.

Every canyon is different and there is always something interesting to see, no mater where you go.

Have Fun

I'm going to second the Escalante River Arm - we camped way back in Davis Gulch two years in a row and it was great. Park your boat at the back of Davis Gulch and walk at least a 1/2 mile and you should come to a really neat dual waterfall/pool thing. Like mentioned, though, it's pretty far from Bullfrog, so be prepared for that. Escalante, though, is the reason people go to Powell.

In fact, be prepared in general. Powell is the greatest lake on earth but she can turn into a monster...

Thanks for the information. Looks like some posts on wakeworld recommend going North into Hope Bay? as most head South towards Escalante Arm etc. Either way we are stoked to be going for our first trip to Powell!!

Good Hope Bay is really good for glass water but it is 20 or 30 miles to the north so be prepared to burn some gas getting there. When we were there in July we had our houseboat parked in Knowles and would wakeboard everymorning up to Good Hope bay. Next year I think we will just drive the houseboat all the way in next time. You shouldn't have any trouble finding glass water in any of the canyons this late in the year though.

We go to Bullfrog every year. Love it there.

For boarding check out Bullfrog and Halls Bay.

Otherwise, get up early before all the boat wakes chop up the main channel.
