Where do you find those specific hinges?

West Marine carries SS piano hinges. Not sure if they would cut them. You may have to buy complete lengths... Dontknow.gif

For the supports, I would drop by your local scrap metal place and see what they have in the way of aluminum "L" channel or even "U" channel. I used 1 1/2"X4"X1 1/2" (1/4" thick) U-channel as legs to hold carpeted bunks on a buddy's boat lift that had been made to hold a I/O runabout and needed to hold his MC. It hasn't broken yet.

you're right handy...must be the bicycle mechanic in you.

Biggrin.gif A couple of my buddies call me McGuyver. I've always been a tinkerer. I probably should have been a contractor or mechanical engineer. Dontknow.gif Well, maybe not....then I'd have to build stuff to "code".... Crazy.gif

To the OP: I think a trip to a dealer would be in order. Just to see what is done in current VLX's and adapt those ideas (& maybe parts) that to yours.

I'm with Norcal, aluminum aupports would be best. My VLX has a 2X2 alum "frame." One tube aligned with the back seat and 2 tubes where the center section and 2 side lids fall on.

I don't think it would be that tough. I certainly would go for the new deck pieces if they could be made in similar colors to yours.

The one piece rear deck is one of the things that made me shy away from the VLX in '99.

Hello!

Just picked up a super clean, fully loaded 98' VLX to replace my 89' MC ProStar 190.  VERY nice upgrade!

Working on a few things while I am waiting on registration; replaced the heater core, packing is on it's way, full tuneup, perfect pass is also on it's way, and some touchup paint on the drivetrain.

Have a few questions:

- The two nuts that hold the bracket on the sundeck that the lift mounts to just spin.  The lower one is loose, but not too bad, but the top one is loose enough so that the bracket isn't solid against the sundeck.  Anyway to tighten those?

- What are the two small unmarked black rocker switches below the speedos on the dash for?

- While the boat is running the oil pressure gauge seems to reset (you can here the motor clicking and the needle drops before going back up to where it should be).  Is this a completely bad gauge, or are there specific parts that can be serviced?  (A servo perhaps?)

- Any writeups on a three piece sundeck conversion?  I'd like to split the sundeck into 3 sections and have the outside sections open outward like the newer VLXs'.

What's up G!!! Congrats on the new ride. Called you a few days ago, but did not leave a message. Going to San V this AM. Give me a call. Going Fridays now. Got a new surfer too. Call me bro!

Congrats on the new ride. Can't wait to see it.

Checked out Buzz's VLX today and it looks like the conversion should be pretty striaght forward. Won't be doing it for awhile, but I'll make sure to detail the process.

Anyone have any idea whats up with the gauge? Maybe I'll give a dealer a call and see if they've seen this type of failure before.

Thanks again guys.
