Finally posting pics of my first Malibu

I finally got around to taking some pictures of my 1990 Sunsetter. I have had it since December, and it has been a blast all summer! Most people can't beieve it is 20 years old, especially when I tell them its all original. Hopefully I will have something other than my phone to take pictures next time, and I will be able to get a few more.

I have been using a 1979 international scout with a 304 and automatic transmission to pull the boat. Luckily I store both of them less than a mile from the ramp. Unlike the boat, people usually believe how old the scout is. I can't complain too much though because I only paid $300 for it (even though it took a couple of hours to get running).

I have some modification plans for both the bu and scout this winter, but we will see what gets done.

(let me know if I need to move this to the "lets see your rigs" folder)

Very nice setup and YES you definitly have to move that to the "Lets see your Rigs" discussion. Beats the hell out of all those guys with monster trucks that are likely trying to compensate for something Whistling.gif

nice setup, your lake sure doesn't look too busy.

It was raining on and off yesterday so there were only three boats on the whole lake. Us, a fishing boat and the Illinois State University ski team.

Right on JWP cool rig and boat.

What state is that Scout from. Last time I have seen a IH Scout around here it was rusted completely from the door handles down. That truck looks to be in good shape.

I see you have Bloomington/Normal, IL listed as your location. I work for the major employer headquartered there. Are you skiing on Clinton Lake?

The scout isn't in as good of shape as this picture makes it look. From the doors forward it is prettty solid besides a minor dent here and there, but the rear half is a different story. The inside of the bed is almost completely rusted out. The rear quarters are pretty bashed up from the previous owner as well. I think the angle I took the picture makes it hard to see the damage.

As for the tow rating I will have to look next time I am at the lake. I do know that the guy I bought it off of used to haul 6 round bales of hay weighing anywhere from 1200-1500lbs each from a ball mounted on the bumper.

I think I can probably guess what company you work for. Yes, I have been skiing on Clinton Lake all summer. Nothing like 105 degree water temperature in the middle of August. If you are ever in town for meetings or something you will have to look me up.

Curious what the actual tow rating of the scout is?

I think the factory Scout II rating was 5000#. The 75/76 XLC and all Scout IIs from 77-80 had a GVWR of 6200#, 5k otherwise.

Those dump truck motors tow well. The short 100" wheelbase is the worst part.
