Depth Gauge for 1996 sunsetter

Recommended Posts

Hello

I have been looking at the gereric depth gauges that replace one of the speedo's, It will give me depth and water temp.

Has anyone done this, If so what gauge have you used?

Not exactly. Maybe 10 years ago I purchased a Humminbird 200DX. I mounted it on the passenger side dash and pointed at the driver's helm. It is fully adjustable for horizontal rotation and vertical adjustment so even after you have bolted the mount through your dash you can adjust the screen perfectly. It has a screen face that is adjustable for contrast that is maybe 2.5" w x 3.25" h. The actual size of the removable head is more like 5.5" x 5.5". Mine came with a temperature probe and the transducer is mounted at the stern of my boat. It has the capability of reading the paddle wheel speedometer that I could buy separately from Humminbird. After you have wired the device you can remove the display unit from the mount to combat theft. Mine is an entry level "fish finder".

We really enjoy this toy. It shows the depth and water temperature in sufficient size to read at a distance. It beeps if you get too shallow. It shows the river bottom in different pictures so you know if you are in grass or other vegetation. It shows the little fish under your transducer and the depth that they are. It draws very little current. I leave it on all day long. I regularly drive my buddies MC 197 with the built in digital display depth guage. It works fine but I much prefer my little fishfinder display showing the bottom structure and water temp.

The angle of the transducer is critical. You always have a reading below 25 mph. Above that it is spotty.

My passengers love it and it gives me peace of mind.
