Wedge for 95 Echelon?

I contacted Malibu about putting a wedge on my 95 Echelon. Got the following response;

Malibu does not recommend that you add a wedge to your boat, as the manual wedge did not come out till 1996. Your boat was not tested to see if if the transom area could stand the force from the wedge.

Has anyone put a wedge on their (95) Echelon? I was thinking of putting a wedge on mine to help create a wake for surfing, but perhaps I am better off trying a ballast system. Any thoughts?

I added one to my 95 Echelon and it worked just fine. I had Bakes Marine install it and I think they added some extra support to the transom.
