Hard tanks stacked on hard tanks

HELP! My 2 yr. old needs a bigger wake!!

Without getting into the pros and cons of hard tanks versus bags, I wanted to see if anyone on this site has added hard tanks to a 05 VLX above the floor and then added another floor on top of the new tanks, so it essentially looks the same as before the add'l hard tanks are added. Of course, any boat will do, it doesn't have to be an 05 VLX.

I came across 2 - 200LB tanks from Intense. Thanks man!! The tanks came out of an 04 LSV. Are these tanks the same size and shape as the tanks in my 05 VLX? They look like 200LBs so they should be.

Why are there 6 factory holes on each tank?

Which hoses are which and which pumps are which on the 05? Drain/fill, etc. Everything works ballast wise, knock on wood, so I haven't had to snoop around yet to learn all this stuff.

Thanks ahead of time as any and all correct advice is appreciated.

They are parallelogram shaped so that they lean out to the side of the boat. By putting in six holes, they only need to make one tank and just turn it around depending which side of the boat the tank is installed on. In other words, with six holes (three on each end) either end can be the "front".

That project is a waste of time and energy. 200 lbs in each rear locker won't do much for you anyways.

:plus1:

Why bother. Those tanks are a PITA. They are always in the way if they are full or not. They seriously take up a lot of storage space when not full. That project was one of my first on my old boat. Traded them out for ProX750's.

I have a buddy with the 09 Vride (same boat as the 05 VLX). He's got the tanks under the floor of the boat. Plus he installed the above floor tanks from his 03 VLX that he still had from when he swapped them out for bags. Combined with the bow & midship tanks, he's at like 1600 lbs of water ballast. Plus he has like 500 lbs of lead. The boat puts out a great wake for any of the foilers & boarders he has on the boat. No regrets at all.

We've talked about the storage issue..... which we agreed was not an issue. If you have bags instead & load the compartments full of gear, then all that gear has to go someplace if you want to fill the bags.

The other issue we wondered about was if you had heavier bags in the back, we figured he'd need more weight in the bow. And with 2 daughters & the wife, he can't loose the bow seating.

Interesting responses. A lot of nays, someone antagonizing me and a yah. I think 400 LBs would make a decent difference for wakeboarding and still keep the storage.

By far the post of value was the response to the 6 hole question. You could have gone anywhere with that!!

You don't use both sides when you're surfing, just the surf side. Filling the off side works against the lean that you're trying to create, regardless of the extra weight that it's contributing. So it's only 200 extra lbs that you're adding.

I think that it would work okay, but I would predict that you'd be looking to add more down the road & that's a lot of work down the tubes if that ends up being the case. Adding ballast for surfing is a very slippery slope.

He's just trying to make his wakeboard wake meatier cause he's jealous of mine  I don't think he's concerned about surfing at this point.

Hey B, why don't I bring my pump out next time and we'll manually fill them up to see if it's worth it. Sounds like a good excuse to get out for a quick run during the week :whistle

Did anyone else notice that he said his 2 YR OLD needs a bigger wake???? Am I the only one that picked up on this little tidbit of information? Either this is a mistake, or you have one talented little kid and I want to see some pics/video of him/her boarding behind an 05 VLX with full ballast and still needing a bigger wake!

I saw it but assumed that it was a joke.

Nate,

I assumed surf, but if what he wants is to improve the wakeboard wake then those tanks will do a nice job. We had to do without the wedge for a few weeks at one point & so we "substituted" (it's not really substituting) by putting about that much weight in each bag in the trunks. Made a really nice improvement in the wake.

He's actually not even 2 yet and it's quite impressive. I'll see if my wife saved the video she took...
