Changing transmission fluid help

Recommended Posts

Heya,

I think it's about time to change my transmission fluid. What type of oil should I use and what's the procedure? I'm assuming I can just pump the fluid out of the same place the dipstick is.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Sweetness. Thank you much. About how much is in there? Quart or so?

I usually get almost 2 quartz back in and I run mine a little higher than the fill line, this was recommended by my dealer and I haven't had a problem yet.

Dextron III in the trans & SAE 30 wt in the v-drive... right?

Dex III in both beginning 2006(?). Indmar manual says a hair over 2 qts in 06+ tranny. I got about 1 7/8 qts out using wakegirl's method.

I'm glad you posted this, I was starting to wonder if I was "say" over filling mine.

Just for everyone's information, I use a flexible magnet that I stick down as far as I can towards the bottom floor of the trans and let it sit overnight. It's pulls a lot of the metal shavings out before pumping the oil out. I've thought about setting one up inside the tranny using the same concept as an auto tranny but still have no way of assuring that it doesn't break loose (or loose it's magnetism) and then I find myself with a blown up mess.

If they only made a dipstick with a magnetized tip that was coated

Thanks. I see in the 05 manual in the Resources section and it's pretty confusing. In several places it says the Hurth transmissions that came in the 05 use ATF, Dex II or III, or Dex/Merc.

Well, isn't Dex basically a specific type of ATF?
