Hour Meter Quit?

Yesterday on the lake I looked down and the hour meter was blank. It is built in to my RPM guage on a 2001 vlx. I have looked for a loose wire under the dash but there are about a million wires under there. Any one know what I should be looking for? The RPM gauge still works.

All right I pulled the gauge, can I bench test it, or just replace it?

If you replace it you will loose the hours on the gauge, reality is the true run hours on the motor are saved on the ECM.

Not sure if it can be repaired, you could check the connection by switching it with the one of the connectors on the other gauges (they are all the same).

The RPM can be plugged into the speedo wires?
