I have a 99 Sunsetter and have had no problems outside of what’s expected for a 11 year old boat. I’ve replaced the starter, steering cable and am having issues with the HDS. But, I love the boat and have no plans of selling or trading.

I've owned mine for 11 years and still love it!! I would agree with the comment on the driver's seat not swiveling. The HDS issue is something you may have to deal with - I fixed mine myself for about $100 and a few hours time. 17K is a great price.

my first summer with my sunsetter. by far the best boat I have ever owned. I have had to replace a few items but nothing out of the ordinary. Not sure what HDS is can somebody tell me.

Mine has been virtually bullet-proof. A couple of things to mind, however.

First, if it still has the stock CVP stainless, 3-blade prop you will want to replace it immediately. There are tales of them throwing blades and it just is a bad prop. You'll want an ACME or OJ CNC'd 13X12 or 13X11.5 model (2001 325 Monsoon doesn't have the same out-of-the-hole torque as the later 335/340 Monsoon so I went with 13x11.5).

The seat stitching tends to seperate at high load points like under the piping on the seat bases. I took mine apart and brought them to a local car upholstery place who re-sowed and re-stretched them for $50/ea. Pretty cheap fix.

After about 560 hours use, mine has some slop in the steering cable which I intend to replace asap (about $150 part from www.skidim.com)

Guages may crap out on you like mine did, but be sure to check the fused links under the dash before panicking and plopping down $200+ for a new MMDC.

That's about all I can think of that I have run up against in 8 seasons and over 520 hours of use.

17K sounds like a steal, even if you have to fix an HDS leak. Go for it, if you like to do Slalom (super soft if not tiny wake) and Wakeboarding/Skating (decent wake with wedge plus 350 lbs. in ski locker) plus haul up to 10 people (and a ton of other stuff - - the trunk is great, I can fit a slalom ski, two wakeboards, a wakeskate, an uninflated tube and a bunch of swim noodles in there) you won't find any better boat out there built today or ever...

HDS = Hydrophonic Dampening System

Lot's of threads about it if you do a search.

I just bought one for alot more than that. Also, my main display was crapped out when I bought it. 200 for a dumbed down version or 800 to replace if you can find the original. Not amazed at the hull shot. Intend to do as stated above and replace stock prop with acme 525.

Other than that I like it so far. smooth on the chop and a nice wake for sking and wakeboarding. Surfing has yet to be dialed in.

this one has 218 hrs and we agreed on a price of 17k

you better buy it before the seller changes his mind..

my 99 has 273 hours and really never had any issues except a battery, steering cable, impellers, and repack the stuffing box.

best ski wake of any family ski boat. love it and will keep it forever.

I had a '00 LXI up until an accident took her from me last spring. It was previously owned by the pastor of my church and he was a competition barefooter in his day and he loved it.. I had it for 4 years and loved it too.

The only issues I had were due to wear and tear. The rear center seat didn't always stay in place if you stepped on it. The out two rear seats split from people stepping on them. Took them to a buddy with a auto/boat shop and he fixed them up.

So, no major issues except she is gone. Now I have a '08 VLX :)

I did not buy it. boat ona scale 1-10. it was a solid 8 no better. had more interior problems then described. alot of stitching in most seats was starting to pull.boat galvanic corrision on all running gear on bottom. motor was replaced from freeze, but manifolds where not, heater core was leaking slightly most likely from freeze. just could not buy.

sounds like a wise decision. only 218 hours but must have been some rough hours with little up-keep.

i'd consider selling mine for 20k...

Glad to hear you're willing to wait. It's hard to do sometimes but in the end it will pay off with the boat of your dreams...that runs.

What main display was crapped out, if you don't mind my asking?

Mine came with the digital display in the center that was capable of running accuski which I am 90% sure mine does not have. That LCD display has all the vitals...Fuel, air/water temp, motor temp, oil pressure, depth, voltage, ect. I cant read it so I am going to get the analog 4 gauge replacement which is a step down.

I need to check into my HDS.
