Oil Change

Recommended Posts

I need some help - at the very minimum opinions..

I'm sitting at 70 hours (or thereabouts) and need to change the oil in my 08 V-Ride (LCR 320) scoping out the details in the engine compartment I'm thinking of warming up the boaton the fake a lake and then pumping the old oil out thru the dipstick. Normally I'd let my very capable dealer handle all the details but the weather report is holding promise, I don't want to neglect my Bu, and lastly - I expect to get the 100 hour service at or near the 100 hour mark.

any thoughs on using the pump and pumping the oil thru the dipstick tube?

thanks in advance

Depending on what other equipment you have, draining is pretty easy.

There is a black drain line connected to the oil pan. The end should be hooked up high on the engine.

If you have a drain plug in the bottom of the hull (passenger side in my LSV), you can drop the line through that hole and let the oil drain into a bucket.

I think that drain hole in the bottom of the hull might get used for ballast pumps in some boats, so it may depend on what options you have. If you don't have that drain option, the hose might reach through the rear drain as well.

Pretty simple.

Thanks guys - sitting in the garage right now watching the oil drain - my ballast takes up the hull drain - but the hose did reach to the back and it's draining ever so slowly from the transom plug hole - pretty slick! only thing I should have done differently would have been to fire up the boat to WOT to get the oil to drain quicker - I knew better... ;)

You are lucky your hose reached to the drain in the back. Mine wouldn't reach. I bought a pump and love it! I can change my oil in about 20 minutes now. I just stick the pump line in to the drain hose and pump away. Works great.
