Damage to Prop

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have just had a 2000 WS VLX shipped back to New Zealand in a container and during shipping the trailer rear hoop has been squashed into the prop (a bronze 4 blade) the one blade that is damaged has been bent back about 1/3 of the way up. All the axles and wheels were removed and the trailer was sitting on a cradle. What I am worried about is if this could have caused any other damage to the shaft. The boat was in a container for 14 days. Thanks

Possibly. There is no way I can tell from here. Turn the propeller by hand and look for any wobble in the shaft from the sides and see if it’s tracking pretty well in the transmission coupling.

Have it throughly inspected. Even then, after you have a new prob check for vibration. Make sure the shipping company knows there may be a second claim after they pay for a new prop.

Thanks I am trying to deal with the insurance company at the moment. Where I live we are limited with the number of shops who can repair my boat. Hopefully will get a shop to look at it next week.

Good luck. You get a boat shipped to you (anxious to get out I assume) and you gotta wait for repairs!
