Heat Exchanger and oil cooler brackets rusting out

Recommended Posts

I have a '04 RLXi with the LS1 engine and corresponding closed cooling heat exchanger. Not sure if any other Malibu engines have a heat exchangers but anyone who has one, please chime in. The boat only has 50 hours on it (never been in salt water) but the brackets that are holding the heat exchanger and oil cooler are completely rusted out. The exchanger and oil cooler themselves are fine and show no signs of rusting.

Am I the only one who has this problem????

Wow - it's surprising that anything can rust out that fast (an 04') with that few hours! Like Pete said, got any pics? Sounds like it's just the hardware which will be way cheaper than the unit itself. Replace it all with stainless so it doesn't happen again. Sounds like they skimped and bought cheapo hardware.

Got pics?

Sounds like it's limited to the mounting hardware. Any way to replace just that?

Yes, looking into it. Called Indmar and they said that they came from R&D Enterprises and gave me their number..
