Exhaust steam

Recommended Posts

On my 99 sportster we taking off there is alot of steam that comes from the exhaust. My engine temperature is 160f and the exhaust manifolds are cool enough to keep your hand on it. What could cause this?

I had some steam coming out of my exhaust. I bought my boat about a year ago and didn't really know full history. Recently the boat would occasionally overheat on first start up then be fine rest of the day. Checked impellar several times and it was fine. After reading some info on here I checked the trani cooler and found it FULL of old impellar pieces. I'm amazed the engine was getting any water and not overheating all the time. Apparently the previous owner had trashed an impellar pretty good. Since cleaning the cooler I have had no steam from exhaust. If you have ever trashed an impellar or have not checked the trani cooler it might be worth a look.

as easy as it is to check the trans cooler it's worth the effort if you have ANY cooling issues.

just remember to treat it gently, you can crush the trans cooler flange.
