Guys, just for a reasonable accuracy check on your speedometer...if you have a Blackberry w GPS, download the "Blackstar" app from the blackberry applications site. Its free. When you run it it gives you a steady realtime reading on speed and direction. You can turn it on anytime and check boat speed on the water. Leared my speedo was showing 2mph too fast versus GPS.

I thought this was pretty cool so thought others might want to do it. Most of my buddys with an IO have completely bogus Speedo readings. I was running 43 and he showed 50 ! lol. I really bummed him out with my realtime reading.

How can you correct the Speedo if it is off?

Hit the button to left of trackball (on my curve 8900), options, units, speed (mph). Also, the compass dial rotates around as you turn, giving you heading. Its a sweet little program. And if you happen to have a nice fishing spot you can use this program to drop a waypoint on that spot, allowing you to return anytime.

If you have an Android phone, GPS Test is a free program that will also give you GPS speed to calibrate a speedo or speed control. Just make sure it is not on a river with a current as that will change your "over the water" speed for the boat.

My wife has a different app for her Driod that shows speed. It's available for Windows Mobile as well (and I'm sure iPhone).

It's a great way to check your speedo. My boat was right on at 10 all the way up to 40.

I meant if your Speedo on your Malibu is not correct to GPS reading how can you change or adjust your Speedo on Malibu to correct?

I have the app on my I Phone. My speedo on my 04 RLXI is off by 9 mph (shows 49 when I am going 40)

How do I calibrate the speedo?
