High Altitude Prop on 2010 23 LSV

Recommended Posts

I have a 2010 23 LSV diamond hull with the 350 Monsoon. I live and do most of my boating between 4,000 & 5,000 feet. The new boat came with a 14x15.5 prop and I am only getting about 4,400 RPMs out of the motor with it. It is my understanding that I should be at least getting 5200 RPMs. The boat is kinda slow out of the hole (went from a 2003 23 LSV with the hammerhead - no comparison) I have contacted the dealer and they are recommending that I put a 14.5 x 14.25 prop on. Any comments as to whether this prop is appropriate. We slalom, wakeboard, wakesurf, wakeskate etc. with the boat. Because we do a fair amount of slalom skiing behind the boat, it is important that it have a good hole shot. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That prop is an ACME 1235 or OJ 475???. These are a very popular choice. You will be very happy... great for wakeboarding and surfing at your elevation and you will get better fuel consumption surfing and wakeboarding in my experience. For skiing you will be turning a few more revs vs stock but if skiing is only part of the plan it should be acceptable. If you want to absolutly certain, contact ACME and tell them where you ride (elevation) your boat info and what you will be doing with it (more detail the better) and their apps engineer will tell you the best option for your boat.

I have the same boat and engine. I have always had the HH, so I was a bit nervous about ordering the Monsoon. With factory ballast and full wedge, the Acme 1235 pulls just fine.

It's neither, either of those would be a performance upgrade to that prop he has now.

I have a 08 23 lsv with the 1235, we just spent a week a Tahoe and it did very good. It does do a little better at lower alt's and I was concerned that it would not pull very well at that alt.We are mostly skiers and surfing no major boarding. If you are running at lakes like Bocca or Stampped, lot of wake boarding and surfing I would run a 1237 or equal to it. At Tahoe I could run flat out at 5000rpm, 40-41mph skiing was no problem but boarding would be a little tough with the 1235.

You know the 1235 is a high altitude prop right?

If I remember, it is rated for about 3500ft, and below. not a 6800ft prop, but it did suprize me at how well it did. I would guess it had a 15+% loss at that alt.

It is my understanding as well that the 1235 is a high altitude prop. We never go to Tahoe, as it is not a great lake for watersports (too cold and perpetual role). Although you were about 600' feet off with the elevation of Tahoe, I agree that the 1235 is not rated per se for its altitude. As I indicated in my original post, we usually do our boating at elevations of 4000-5000 feet. From everything I have read, I think the 1235 should do just fine, I was just wondering if anyone had any better suggestions.

How many RPMs were you getting with the 1235 at Tahoe.

Everyone's input is much appreciated.

The 1237 is supposed to be the same as the 1235 except more cup to keep you from bumping up against the rev limiter like the 1235 likes to do. Is this how you understand it as well?

Not sure I understand why boarding would be a problem?

I can't remember, but I have never hit the limiter, I may be off on the 1237 but I know the 1235 is for lower alt's. It works great at lower alt's when you load the boat for surf, and it pulls like crazy out of the whole when sking, all at about 800-1000 ft. Just my experience.

In my years I have not seen a prop rated for a specific alt. and would like to see it if some one has this info. There are way to many things to factor in when picking just the right prop.

The ACME 1237 is the same as the 1235 but with more pitch for top end and help keep off rev limiter.

As for what prop will be best for you is hard to say because you are working with many differnt speeds (surfing-sking).

This is CM2C on how prop hole shot go's and this is not a full list.

OJ 475 or Fusion=(saves you a few $$) good hole shot and top end.

ACME 1235-1237 better hole shop and less top end with the 1235

OJ 468 even better hole shot with about the same loss on top end as the 1237

I had a hight altitude prop (don't recall model or dimensions) on my last boat (2003 23 LSV with hammerhead) and was told when I put it on that I would loose some top end. However, such was not the case. In fact, I gained top end. I figured it must have been due to the increase in RPMs. Like my current boat, I was only getting about 4400 rpms and should have been getting about 5400. With the prop change, my RPMs went up, hole shot went up and top end went up. Only down fall was I would hit the rev limiter when at sea level.

meant the prop he was looking at/recommended by his dealer 14.5 x 14.25
