Radar Annex

I am sore today. We got back yesterday from 5 days in Hell's Canyon on the Snake River in Idaho. I got in a few wakeboarding runs, but mostly spent the time on my new stick, the Radar Annex. The last few days we had a former pro slalom skier with us giving instruction. I learned a lot and have plenty of things to work on now.

I have been on a HO Triumph for the last 5years and thought it was time to try something better at a faster speed. I also liked the changes Radar had made with the boots going from the Rails to the Vectors. I first demoed the Senate C and really liked it, but still didn't feel like it set into the turns the way I thought it should or the way I wanted it to for me. I called up Chris Sullivan at Radar and he suggested that I should try out the Annex. It is a full concave ski and is 0.2" more narrow than the Senate C, losing the wide rail that the Senate C has on the edges. I'm glad that I listened to his advice and tried it out, because I really liked it and felt like my skiing took some big steps forward.

I also liked the Vector boots. They give more support than the Rails and are more comfortable. I felt like they helped give me a little more control over the ski being more responsive.

Now I want to get back out on the water, work on the things I learned, and try out the new setup in the course. Unfortunately I have to put in some time at work now.

Were you in Lewiston? Did you raft the canyon?

We were at the Brownlee Dam. We camped overlooking the reservoir in Woodhead Park. Beautiful spot.

My new ski is also a Radar Annex. I have only taken a few runs and am still getting dialed in, and getting in skiing shape to boot. My off side is not coming along nearly as easy as my good side, but I also haven't had much time on it. So far no fin changes.

Do you ski behind your boat? I have been spending more and more time slalom skiing behind some friends' Nautique. The kids still like to wakeboard, although they are also doing more slalom skiing as well. I have thought about DD, but would hate to give up the cabin layout of the Vdrive. I have demoed the VTX a couple of times, the last being 2yrs ago. Maybe it is time to try it out again, or perhaps to take a look at the FXI.

I have really liked the Annex. I have tweaked a few things, mostly to do with the position of the boots on the ski. I was having a small issue with some cramping in my rear foot, but that seems to have been resolved with a few changes. I'm having to learn to work at getting the ski set better for my turns, which is something that the Triumph and the Senate C I demoed were more forgiving on. Once the Annex is set though, it really holds the turn well. Getting into a nice rhythm with this ski is a thing of beauty.
