2008 247 with the 8.1?

I am looking at a 2008 247 that seems to fit the bill for me. I need a big boat capable of carrying lots of people. I am well aware of most items on this boat as my best riding buddy has a 2007 247. His boat has the 383 Hammerhead engine and the one I am looking at has the 8.1L engine. The 383 HP is very good in its own right, but the particular boat I have found has the big block.

I know the Indmar supplied engine to Mastercraft had some problems a few years before this, but I think they got those things worked out by 2008. I have the 8.1 in my Mastercraft X45 and I love it. The boat consumes a little more fuel, but it also leaps out of the water no matter how much weight I have in it.

Is there anything I should be cautious of with a 2008 247, especially regarding the engine, but also any thoughts in general?

Thanks for your help.

Welcome, you're going from a Tige to MC and now moving on to a Bu Good choice. I wouldn't be scared of the 8.1 they are good engines. It will be the same motor that's in your MC so not sure why you're asking, Indmar makes them both.

I just wondered if there are any differences. Sounds like there is nothing to be leary of as far as the engine goes. The 2006 original motor in my MC had some sort of exhaust restriction issue that caused the engine to fail. It was replaced with a brand new engine in December 2008 when I bought it. Anything like that happen to Malibu?

Also any other items on that year boat that are typically thorny areas? Thanks for your response.

And the fuel pump is a topic for another thread...

Malibu launched the "Make it Right" campaign for 08' boats. This had little to do with the engine package and more issues with tower stuff and the electronic mux switches. Check to see if that boat was serviced by a dealer or malibu for that check up.
