What Are the Best Wakesurf Boards?

Hi everyone,

I've had a big wakesurf board for a while now and it's time to buy a new, high performance board for the tricks and some hopeful air. Right now I'm looking at the CWB Tsunami and Blackjack, and then some Shredstixx boards, but I haven't been able to find any reviews comparing different boards out there. I'm 5'11", 170, and my wife is 5'5" 125, and we'd like the board to work for both of us, which kind of complicates things. And we're sure our friends are going to use it also which means that we may not want a fragile board, and I hear that fiberglass boards like the Blackjack are pretty fragile. Also, I hear a rumor that Shredstixx boards don't fit in the storage racks on towers...anybody know if that is true?

If you have other suggestions on great boards then please let me know. All input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Check out this thread. For the price I don't think these can be beat. Yes all fiberglass boards are fragile. You'll want a composite or epoxy if durability is a big concern of yours.

I know little to nothing but I have a TWP Composite x 5.8 and I think it's a great board. It's a lot more fun and agile than the broadcast I used to ride and much quicker as well. Beginners rarely have trouble with it as well. I would like a bit more of a skim board so next year, I'll probably get a phase 5 or other. I've also heard nothing but good things about the shredstixx.

My TWP doens't fit in the wake racks either just the combo rack. Mine is a 5.8 and I've had people ranging from 120 to 200 without problems. I wouldn't say this board can't be beat, but it is definitly a great all-around board. I'll probably keep it forever. Also it definitly is fragile but not to the point where it's hard to take care of.

Its mostly a matter of opinion.

This is a good point, so to try and make this thread useful, here are some good brands:

TWP

Inland Surfer

Phase 5

Triple X

Shredstixx

Ronix

Liquidforce Venture

These are in no particular order and from no experience other than the general feedback from this site and others. Most people will say wakeboard companies don't make the best surfboards and your better off with a wakesurf company. The Ronix Coal and the new Liquid force Venture are the only two I've ever heard mentioned that are reasonable contenders.

I'm also sure I missed a BUNCH of other good companies but this will give you a good start, and others can add to the list. Like buying a Bu, MC, or CC, these are all good boards and it comes down to what your looking for and what you like.

People like the hyperlite broadcast etc, and the CWB's but I feel their is a general consensus that you can outgrow those pretty fast and your better off with a wakesurf companies board. Having ridden a broadcats and a TWP, I would agree with these people.

Keep in mind, I know nothing Wink.gif

I would add flyboy to that list. Surf style, James won the world champsionship on the flyboy last weekend and he's won a couple of contests in a row this year......

I have a Grindwater Shaka and a Ronix Caption. Grindwater is a fiberglass surf style board. I like it (6', 180), but smaller people struggle with it. I'd stick with a compression moulded if you want universal appeal. We use the CWB Ride a lot and people like that (I tend to bury the nose a lot on it, though it might just be my low skill level) Just got the Ronix for my wife. She and others like it, easy to ride but fun (only 2 fins, pretty loose).

Thats the idea tricknicky.

And another of my favorites is Walker - if you can find them they are well worth the effort.

And depends also on surf style or skim style

I own a Inland Surfer Swallow I like it but it is not very forgiving. The nose dives easily and it is almost too responsive that you cant just cruise. My friend has the Blue Lake and it is much looser and easier to ride. I'm 170lbs. 6 feet.

We just picked up a liquid force custom thruster and it's awesome. We used it on all different sizes of people from 5'3 (130lbs) to 6'1 (210lbs) and it's the best. It's actually made like a really surf board, so it's light and smooth. Anyways something to think about.

Used to ride a Ronix Koal... nice board a bunch of work to keep in the pocket.... just bought an Inland Surfer Blue Lake. Can ride it all day with not much effort.... it is free'er riding and fast which makes it very easy to cut and turn with... very very nice board. I am 5'8" 220 lbs ( of pure muscle)
