Harmonic noise from drive shaft?

Hey gang. Just spent last weekend on the lake and I noticed a high pitch sort of Harmonic noise from the drive shaft/packing. It would happen when i took the boat out of gear but the shaft was still turning. The noise was in sync with the speed of the shaft as it slowed down. Has anyone heard this before? What does it mean, is the packing too dry, worn out, too wet? Its a velvet drive straight shaft 1:1.

Thanks a bunch

I had the same thing happen to me in my REsponselx. Check to make sure your throttle cable isnt rubbing the understand of the shaft nut that fits the tranny. Mine had rubbed for years before we actually heard it. Electrical tape and it was fixed.
