Best surfing design for Bu. Wakesetter 23 LSV ?

Wake Weasel

Recommended Posts

I have test drove a lot of different designs for wakebarding but I am also wanting a very nice long deep pocket for surfing. I have just road the SAN 210. It was very nice but it does not seem very long even with a little extra in the bow.

Which Malibu model/year do you think would be the best duel purpose surf and wakeboard design. I do like the look of the Bu Wake Setter 23 LSV.

Any advise on this is appreciated.

I have an 08 23 LSV. When I surf I fill rear surfside, center and front ballast, wedge one click from full down, a 750 bag in the rear locker, a 350 under the surf side seat and another 350 bag in the bow. With this setup I can stand behind my boat and ride across the lake if I wanted to. (ropeless) This setup allows you to surf with the minimum of three people. I couldn't be happier with my boat, plenty of room for people and gear, and has awesome fit and finish. I just wish I had an '11 now that I see all the cool stuff they are putting in the new boats.

I don't have a picture handy of the wake but you can control the length of the wave with bow weight. I learned the setup described above by many of the good people also with 23 LSV's on this site.

Good Luck.

Honestly, the bigger the boat the bigger the surf wave can get. I have an 08 Wakesetter VLX and we can surf with just factory ballast and wedge. I have heard people can even surf behind the VTX but I think that may be a little too small. You could really take any v-drive malibu and make it a good surf boat but ideally you would want to look at the VLX, 23LSV, and 247LSV for the best combo wakeboard/surf boat. I would suggest test driving them and see what size you need. If you are contemplating between two sizes I would suggest going with the bigger one because I often hear people complain that their boat is too small but I rarely hear people complain that their boat is too big. VLX happens to be more than enough for me and I can get an awesome surf wake out of it, nevermind the pro quality wakeboard wake.

:plus1: on the bigger boat can make a better surf wave. But an important thing to note is the bigger the boat the more weight you need to weight it down.

Also on the VTX note, I wouldn't cut it short just because it is...well , short! I bet you'd be surprised what the little VTX can do for a surf wave with the same ballast you would use for your VLX.

In the end I think the OP would be happies with a 23lsv or 247. Really it comes down to cost, storage and do you really want THAT much space that comes with the 247. I've heard nothing btu great things about it but I think teh 23lsv is the perfect large wake/surf boat for 85% of people.

Good point. The VTX would probably fit my needs 99% of the time too. I guess my opinions about the VTX stem from people constantly saying how great of a crossover boat it is and how the ski wake is really good. When I think about surfing and boarding I don't think VTX however, I have not riden behind one so my opinion on that is really not based on any fact.

I am going to the suggested site above and thanks for all the view points they actually seem to coincide with what I have experienced else where. I do appreciate all the responses.

I'd suggest reading this post for what an LSV is capable of.

I was reading that post. I ride standard or port side. My husband is goofy but I convinced him to ride standard on my Centurion. I was wondering if the 06 LSV's are better starboard than port and if they may have changed at all on later models. I assume it is the prop rotation like on the Centurion.

Another question do any of you LSV owners have a problem with water from a rouge wave getting into the engine vents. My Centurion has them on top but I have to weight it down to the rub rail and if I am not super careful or a stray boat screams by I will get a lot of water in the engine compartment. The CC has them on the side I think they just changed that design this year.

Yes it's all about the prop rotation. Yes water does get in vents from time to time but no big deal it goes to the bilge. I've never gotten enough in there for my bildge pump to pick it up.

If you are interested in wakesurfing you definitely don't want an 08 or newer CC 210. We just sold ours to get a better surfing boat..... http://www.wakeworld.com/forum/showthread.php?t=718065

Would also like to hear about and see photos of the 23 LSV surf wake.

I think I talked to you on planet nautique. You definitely helped me narrow my decision down earlier. Was that your boat with the secondary lip on the surf wake.

You can make any of the Malibu V drives into fine surfing boats. What are your space requirements?

Sad to say I don't particularly like a ton of people in the boat. I just want a nice surf wake for myself and my wake board buddies. This surfing sport is great when we don't want to leave the water but our arms feel like they would fall off if we did one more wake board pull. I don't think I want anything bigger than 23 foot. I have a 21 now and I can handle it by myself.

It was me, glad I could help you not make the same mistake I did. I was really torn on whether or not I should just live with what I had (wishing I had a better wave) or take a hit and get something I would really be happy with. I am on a quest to find the perfect boat for us, but am going to take my time doing it. I like what I am reading seeing on the 237 and 247, still need to invest more time to it though.

We have been surfing a LSV 23 for a few years and everyone who gets on our boat says its the best wake they have seen. Centurion and Natique included. We surf regular and the wake is 20 feet long.

We put together an update on our findings of tuning a LSV 23. Check the following link:

It took a couple weeks to get it dialed in, but we are loving our 23LSV. Custom sac on order, but we are surfing with a 750 in the locker when we have ppl on the boat and another 750 in the seat when it's just us two. Great wake, steep face, nice pocket.

We actually get it cleaner than this with a bit more weight in the boat.

We use Front, center and left ballast tanks, a 900 lb Sumo V-surf in the left rear locker and as much water under the left rear seat as it can take... Usually have 4 adults on the boat... I have just started to use the wedge for tuning... start with the wedge fully deployed and work it to max wake size based on the load etc. It has ben a great tool for tuning the wake I have now started running it at max wake with just 4 adults. This has been a journey of trial and error and what works for me may just be a starting point for you.

Dude you are way to close to the transom, you need to either speed up and lengthen the wave out or add some weight to the bow. That's almost dangerous.

Wanna get the wake lengthened out... with differnt weighting...need more

Trying this for the first time as a way to show photos not sure if it will work( all my photos are private just made available to everyone) hopefully it work

Go to your photo on facebook, right-click the picture and choose Properties. Where it says Adress (URL), highlight all of that. • 2 weeks later...

Well thanks for the help. I can not believe I did this so soon but...I bought a 2006 wakesetter LSV 23 today. I am pretty excited and I pick it up in a week. I am running through all the forums now and trying to get familiar with some of the quirks of Malibu. I had just got all the bugs worked out of my centurion so I guess it is time to sell it.
