blowing fuses on fuel pump

Recommended Posts

i keep blowing fuses on the fuel pump. the last time this happened it was right after starting the boat. the previous post i had about engine trouble turned out to be this.

this is my 2005 wakesetter with 340 monsoon. fuel pump has only got about 22 hours on it. (last one got blocked up with some gunk in the screen) I had spare fuses this time but they blew too once i started the engine, still had to get towed back. wires look ok, no visible short and once i put a new fuse in the pump runs when i turn the ignition on. then it blows right after the engine starts.

I'm almost out of ideas...bad pump? this one getting blocked up? wiring wrong?

Fuel pump may be gummed up again, I'd pull the pump, inspect the suction and even inspect the bottom of your fuel tank. May have gotten some bad fuel thats degraded in the bottom of your tank and you may find yourself with this problem time and again. Also maybe change your fuel filter if its still original, filter may be plugged up as well making the pump overpressure its discharge size blowing the fuses.

Also read the wires with a good multimeter. you may have a pinch under the floor. as for the filter. that would be my first guess.

My sunsetter did the same thing when one of the wires coming out of the back of the alternator rubbed the insulation off and shorted out against the engine mount.

I had an issue with my 2004 Malibu Response 340 Monsoon after about 3 years old. I replaced fuse and it blew again. Replaced fuel pump and it blew again. I called Indmar and actually got one of their engineers. My fuse was 15 amps, wiring diagram showed 15 amp fuse. The engineer checked the current year model  wiring diagram and it had 20 amp fuse. The engineer checked the wiring specs on my year model and that year model and they were the same gauge wire. He told me to replace 15 amp fuse with 20. Never had another issue
