Platform warranty?

Just got back from an evening on the river. Was heading back to the dock, loaded the boat, then went back to wipe it down. Lo and behold, my swim step is gone! It was the fiberglass type on a 2007 Malibu. It appears one of the clips that hold the platform on the brackets came loose and fell out. Once this happened, the other side of course ripped right off. No idea where it happened. Didn't really hear anything.

Question is would this be covered under a warranty for a somewhat crappy design? The pin clips they have aren't the best and I believe I've seen it come undone one time before, but I wasn't sure if that was just the kids playing around the boat since I've been running it for 3 years without issues.

Any ideas? I'll be hitting up the shop tomorrow.

I highly doubt they would warranty that, especially since it is gone now. Wow, that would toatlly suck!. Sorry bro.

The same thing happened on my Moomba, except someone was standing on it, so we noticed the disappearance. :P

The Moomba had the same pins as your 2007, but I replaced them with a much more sturdy clip. Not surprisingly, Malibu now has the same type of clip on the newer swim platforms.

You may be SOL, but it doesn't hurt to ask. They obviously recognize this was a poor design and have fixed it in later years. Hopefully they will help you out.

Just thought I'd give a little update. I posted that I lost the platform on craigslist. 2 weeks later someone contacted me that they had found it. Yup, they did. 7 miles down river! I can't believe it all worked out. This little problem cost me $350 but it could have been quite a bit more.

Good Luck, but I don't think this will be covered under warranty. You may be able to get one at cost if you say everything was fastened down and you don't know what happened  it's worth a try.

Wow, simply amazing you got it back. What required the $350, repairs?

Not to highjack, but I lost a ring of keys at the dock once (Car, house, work, everything in that bundle). I know they dropped out at the dock somewhere, and had an idea where they were but no way these would be recovered, I went back that day with a magnet and scrapped the entire area for almost 3 hrs. One day I got to the gym and they said to call these people at this number. They found my keys on shore almost a mile away from the dock, the key ring had my plastic gym I.D. with my number and the gym name. Went to pick them up from their house, they had decided to go fishing in this one little spot where nobody ever goes, both of us could not figure out how a pair of keys could travel from the dock that far. Talk about lucky :)

Back to topic at hand

What is the $350 for. Can't be shipping as it was found only 7 miles down river. Did the guy hold it for ransom and make you do a money drop somewhere?

So theres nooooooo chance you forgot to put the clips in eh? I just can't see how they would ever come off. They were in the back pocket of your board shorts right? The only reason I ask is because thats usually where I carry my cell phone
