Response LXI Floating or Power Wedge

Just purchased an 2008 Response LXI and we would like to surf behind the boat. Has anyone used a floating wedge on this hull to surf? What about a power wedge? Thanks for the help. Ryan.

I'm sure others will chime in, but I think I read that the power wedge has to be put in at construction of the boat. IMO I don't think you'll need a wedge to surf, just a lot of ballast.

I can tell you from first hard experience that it is possible to retrofit a powerwedge on a rlxi.

I can add a power wedge. It would be great if the floating wedge worked for surfing because it is a lot less $$$. I want something that works well.

A Floating wedge will work great for surfing and save you some serious coin. It's really not a PITA like the thje old manual ones could be. Their is also next to NO way your going to have trouble with it, get it stuck, have to worry about calibrating etc. A power wedge will cost you more but it does give you that adjustability and a bit more Ooomph. Theres more risk something will go wrong than the manual but they are proven to very reliable systems.

Yes, with a power wedge and some people ballast. The wedge will act the same (relative to eachother) an any hull though. The power wedge will always give you a bit more downforce and adjustability, but it will also cost you more.

I run a Power Wedge on my 2006 RLXi and about 500lbs of ballast on the surf side. The wedge is 2 clicks from fully deployed. 9.5mph. It sets a really decent curl. It doesnt take much to get the hull of these boats deep in the water. 250lbs more ballast would probably be primo.

The wedge does have gauge calibration problems, but I dont even use the gauge anymore as I have developed a feel for it.

If you can get the parts. Dealers are not supposed to sell those parts without a HID# associated with a boat that was built with a power wedge.

When we got our boat used we were told we could get a power wedge with it. The dealer expressed that he was not very comfortable doing it since they had never retrofitted a power wedge befor ebut he offered it to us. In the end we saved our money and have the floating wedge. No dissappointments her, probably wouldn't be had we gone with the power wedge either.

Probably offered it without checking first to see if he could actually do it.

I was thinking that too. Or he offered found out than came back with the whole "not comfortable" business in hopes we'd stick with the manual.
