Shaft Packing Size 2004 23 XTI Direct Drive

Recommended Posts

I have a 2004 Wakesetter 23' XTI Direct drive. My packing nut is spraying water. I am going to try to tighten it a bit, but in case that does not work I want to immediately be able to repack the nut. Can anybody tell me what size GFO packing rope I need to buy????? is it 1/4 or 3/8" ?????????????

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just picked up 3/16" GFO packing today from my local dealer (same price as SkiDim @ No Wake in Cincy if anyone is looking for it). They confirmed the 3/16" was the proper size for the XTI. I have the same boat as you, just a 2002 version. Plan to repack this weekend and take it for a test drive/adjustment before laying her up for the winter...

Good luck with the swap!

Leave it really loose to start. Mine was about 2 turns further out than the similar amount of flax packing...

Tighten it just until you start to feel resistance as a good starting point.
