Extended Pylon for 99 Sunsetter VLX (For Boom Mount)

I want to install a barefoot boom on my 1999 Malibu Sunsetter VLX V-Drive. I have not yet purchased a boom, but I know that I will need to replace the OEM pylon with a longer pylon to allow mounting the boom.

Questions:

Q1 - Where can I buy an extended pylon that will best fit my Malibu V-Drive?

Q2 - What height would you recommend? (I mainly slalom ski behind this boat)

Q3 - Anyone selling a used V-Drive Boom and/or V-Drive pylon?

Q4 - Any recommendations on a good boom for a V-Drive?

FYI...I have looked at Barefoot International, which looks good, but I want to get the boom as far forward of the boat spray as possible. I should have bought a direct drive, but that's another story.

Thanks in advance for the help & suggestions...

- Pat

When we got our boom for our VTX we needed an extended pylon. We oredered ours through our dealership, something like $200 (Don't quote). Aprox. 18" long. The problem we ran into was the engine is only a couple inches below the pylon slot so now we can't make it 'disappear' into the platform. We leave it in the down position all the time whish is about equivalent to the ski position with our old pylon and than we extend it in order to clamp the boom on.

EDIT:

1- Your dealership

2- Just make sure you have 3" above the sunpad. If your too short now, than you'll probably have to go up 6" (they don't make infinite heights)

3- nope

4- I was told the only V-drive boom is the Barefoot international quad-deluxe v-drive boom. I have it and it works great. get an extension and the height adjuster. I didn't get the height adjuster. Now I am. Quick release pin is nice too.

I recommend ordering the boom and pylon rigth through your dealership to make matters simple. All in all ours came to about $800 for everything.

Thanks...Any chance you have a pic of the boom set up on your VTX?

So you've got no problems with the boat spray, as long as you've got the extension and riser?

Don't think I have any pics but I can take some on the weekend. Anything particular you want to see.

Also I don't have the height adjuster...yet, but it would actually be to lower the boom. I find it a bit high when I'm footing right off the boom. Still very doable but just a bit awkward. As for spray I have absolutely no trouble on the boom or shortline. Slower speeds may produce different results (ie teaching kids).

I do have these photo's, ignore their ridiculousness but you can see that it's a little high and I can't quite squat as much as I'd like. Also gives you an idea of the spray.
