Following Too Close

I was wondering if this would help with those jet skiers that follow too close to jump my wake?

My link

I could mount it to the tower, and let the bow riders take aim.

Just fresh on the mind after a pleasant chat with a jet skier Saturday.

Possible group buy?

I have found that many jet ski riders have no clue on rules and regs. Last year when we were on vacation and had a group of them that rented from a local resort that would buzz within 15ft of our skiers that were down in the water.

Group buy sounds like a deal - and o the fun. This guy had two little kids, one in front and one in back. I yelled at him the first time and another guy waived him on. Well he rode up beside the boat for a while, then turned around and started again. This time I stopped the boat and we gave him the come here finger, problem is the closer he got the bigger he got. So we explained to him that that was against the law, and asked him to think about that being his kid back there. He mouthed off that it was fine and he was way back but if that was how we felt then that was just fine.

I don't mind them jumping the wakes if there is no skier, and sometimes set it up for the old stand up wet bikes so they can jump the wakes, because there are some guys that do barrel rolls and all kinds of cool tricks on them. Difference being I have no boarder, and I let them know its ok to play.

Huge problem where I go boating. Im thinking about getting thoes paint granades from academy tie a couple on my vest and if one comes close chunk it at him. I think I need to review some james bond movies and see if I can get some secret compartment to throw out mines.

My buddy has one on his VLX (and 500 baloons for $5), it fits the Titan 2 tower perfectly for assault astern.

They do make things that you can drag behind your boat, but I am sure it is illegal.

Scary thing is that these things fly @ 60 mph and often have a young kid driving them. I rode one a few weeks ago and couldn't believe how fast they go - and how much field of vision is lost when flying on them. Scares the fool out of me when they jump wakes

Sheesh, only 60?

You must have been on a really old, small one. :innocent:

You have an excellent point, when kids are riding these things at those kinds of speeds, I'm sure tunnel vision is a huge problem. I never thought of that. When I'm up over 100mph on my motorcycle, I'm only looking at what's right in front of me. When you're on the water, you gotta keep your head on a swivel.

I have a 9 ft potato cannon that will shoot a tater about 100 yards. Guns.gif

Are you doing something wrong? Mine is maybe 3 ft long and can shoot 100 yards. But dam,n their a blast. Want to build a big (like 9ft) one and see if I can clear the lake.

We have Potato Guns as well, I just thought the Water Balloon Launcher would make a better "concealed" weapon. A buddy of mine from work throws oranges at them. We toyed with the use of a 12 Guage, but thought that may be a little tough on a new rider and we may not have the time to train them the edge hard and duck tactic when grandpa pops up with the shotgun

I feel fortunate that we have very few jet skis in our area so it has never been a problem. However, if it were I would forgo the water balloon option since it would leave balloons in the lake. My sons have half a dozen potato guns ranging from 2' to 8' powered by compressed air, propane or even hair spray. But these just aren't accurate enough to do much good. I would imagine getting hit by that potato plug would hurt quite a bit. I even have a real 18" canon that my father had mounted on the rail of our 45' sailboat in the 70s and we could shoot golf balls out about a mile or so. Still an unrealistic option though. No, I would have to opt for my son's paintball gun. Wicked accurate and biodegradable ammo. You can adjust the pressure down to 250psi to lessen the sting.

Just try to aim for their legs and not their heads.

I suppose if I lived in an area where this was a regular problem I would have to get a rack made for my titan tower that would hold two paintball guns as well. Something to consider. Just the site of it might deter a few people from riding near my boat. Works the same with pickup trucks here in MT. with the gun rack in the back.

This might not be the best idea in the world, but last time I had a jet ski following me real close (without a skiier in the water), I turned around and gave them a taste of their own medicine.... It was a couple of teenagers, and I brought the Bu up pretty close on their azz as they were trying to get away from me.... Jet skis can't out manuver a ski boat very easily.... I followed close for about 30 seconds, just long enough that the passenger looked like he crappy his pants, then I let them go. They stayed away after that.

Firing water balloons at a PWC? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose??

This would yield much better results, IMO. I wonder if they make a mount for an Illusion or Titan Tower?

Thats actually genius. I mean ya it's definitly dangerous but it would be VERY effective, plus at 8x the size and 15 times the weigth I'd be shaking in my seat too. When my driver turns around to come pick me up I always look at the boat and think twice at the sight of it just engulfing water.

yea, its a common problem we all fight - like my good wise friend says "You don't have to pass an IQ test to drive a boat"

Paintballs - that'll work :guns:

Until you accidentally have someone shoot it in the boat, then what  I'm not sure I would ever want a paintball gun in my boat

My buddy took a potato to his left eye from a hairspray PVC cannon (6 footer) at about 50 yards. He spent 4 weeks in the hospital and had to have his skull behind the eye reconstructed and no longer has any sight out of his left eye. I will never forget that moment or day for the rest of my life. When we have kids, that's one thing on the no fly list.

Ya, you can fill the balloons with the shower like nothing, stretch the sling shot back into the bow and let it fly out the back of the boat. We have about a 60 yard range with the balloons. We usually rain down on obnoxious kids blasting Lady GaGa. No PWCs yet.
