1989 Starter Replacement, electrial diagram

Recommended Posts

Hi

I purchased a 1989 Malibu Sunsetter this spring. My kids are skiing now and having a great time. The boat has the following starting issue that was intermintent. Turn the key and nothing happens, then with multiple trys it would start. Yesterday it would not start at all. I believe it is the starter. I have a fresh battery and I have 12.5 volts at the starter. The selenoid is switching I verified with a voltmeter. Does anyone have an electrical schematic or procedure to validate it is the starter. Also any advice on removing the starter.

Thanks, look forward to skiing soon.

Ken

re: "Turn the key and nothing happens" does that mean nothing or does the solenoid click/chatter?

The upper solenoid clicks and closes per volt meter measurement but no click at the starter solenoid.
